🌀 ZigZag Sparks
Crayon Rainbows
Japanese Seashells
The ocean had been busy
all morning.
Waves rolled in wearing
white party wigs.
Foam tumbled like sheep
falling out of a cupboard.
A seabird floated past
holding up its pants.
Then a river zigzagged
between the bobbing waves.
Nobody knew who had
put it there.
A tiny boat floated on it
carrying one oar
and a houseplant.
It was approximately
the size of a cucumber.
Inside sat Rilloo,
holding a blue umbrella.
"Where are you going?"
"Down the river."
"That's the ocean."
Rilloo looked down.
The river kept zigzagging
within the sea waves.
It seemed fairly convincing.
A crab had set up a chair
on the riverbank.
The ocean hugged either bank
like two elephants sharing
a curly straw.
The crab didn't seem
concerned.
"Waterfront property."
Two fish approached
the river wearing cleats.
"Soccer game?"
"Across the river."
They looked left.
They looked right.
Then crossed the river
in about six seconds.
A rainbow crashed above the
river like seven crayons
escaping a backpack.
Then landed back in the
ocean on the other side.
The little boat continued
zigzagging like it had
somewhere to be.
A seashell floated by on a lotus
pad, practicing its Japanese.
Another wave rolled through.
Rilloo unfolded a map.
There was a river
through a cabbage.
One through a pirate's
hat full of gold.
And apparently three
inside Tuesday.
Rilloo folded the map.
Ahead, the river curved
through the crashing waves.
The ocean was going
everywhere.
The river was going
somewhere.
The little boat followed.
The moon smiled upside down.
The earth whispered, "Wheee."
And there are popsicles on
Thursdays.
