Moss Conversations
The first raindrop thought it was
all alone.
By lunchtime, the forest had built
a conversation.
Today, Crumo found a single
acorn trying very hard to become
tomorrow.
It was wearing yesterday's
courage like an oversized
raincoat.
Crumo nodded politely.
Tiny things usually know
something the mountains
forgot.
So, it carried one leaf.
Then another.
A ladybug arrived carrying
one freckle of good luck.
A sleepy fern unfolded
an extra shade of green.
The breeze wandered by,
wearing pockets full of feathers.
A chipmunk accidentally donated
half a pinecone, three pine
needles, and two very important
ideas.
Nobody announced a plan.
The moss simply scooted over
to make room.
Little by little, the pile became
a wonderful idea. Fireflies
know this vibe.
By five o'clock tea, it looked like
the kind of place where butterflies
would celebrate Tuesdays.
Nobody remembered
who had started it.
The acorn smiled anyway.
The hill stood just a little taller,
like it had heard a really good
secret.
The snails applauded eventually.
The moon smiled upside down.
The earth whispered, "Wheee."
And there are popsicles on Thursdays.
