🌀 ZigZag Tricks
Beatles Penguins
Wandering Trailheads
Driftlo doesn't try to get
anywhere.
It prefers arriving by
wandering.
Like seaweed drifting through
the ocean with an eyeglass
in one eye.
Yet everyone appeared to have
an appointment.
Outside the Bureau of
Lost Directions, the line
stretched all the way to the
pond.
Nobody seemed concerned.
A penguin wearing a Beatles t-shirt
was helping everyone find the
correct trailhead.
The penguin appeared to have
done this before.
A stork arrived carrying
seven forms.
It only needed one.
The other six were excellent.
Driftlo wandered past the line,
paused to inspect a crab that
appeared to be supervising
the clouds.
Beside the trailhead, a tortoise
stamped papers.
Further along, a breeze misplaced
three seashells and an afternoon.
Everything continued normally.
A seagull completed the
wrong form and was
congratulated anyway.
A jellyfish forgot why it had
come.
By lunchtime, everything had
been sorted out.
Even the jellyfish.
Nobody was entirely certain how.
The penguin in the Beatles
t-shirt waved from the start.
Driftlo waved back.
A committee of mollusks
adjourned early.
A heron misplaced
its clipboard.
Three pebbles were
reassigned to a puddle.
Nobody questioned this.
And the moon smiled upside down.
The earth whispered, "Wheee."
And there are popsicles on
Thursdays.

Arriving is optional
