Pebble Mountains

Dandelion Jerseys

The trail had been a trail all

morning.

Around noon, it became a quest.

Nobody knew exactly when this

happened.

A raccoon accepted additional

responsibilities, and became

an atlas that misplaced

its table of contents.

The dandelions seemed prepared,

wearing their team colors.

Fablet arrived shortly after.

Or perhaps before.

Stories are not always particular

about timing.

Somehow a pebble became a

mountain of dreams and several

side quests.

A puddle became a dragon.

A fern was promoted to Forest of

Great Importance.

The fern accepted with dignity.

Other creatures followed the trail.

Fablet followed the story.

Most days, the two traveled

together.

Today they wandered off

separately.

Near a fallen log, three snails

formed an expedition.

Progress was immediate.

Next, the expedition became

lost almost immediately.

This improved morale considerably.

A butterfly unfolded a treasure map.

The map led to a patch of clover.

The clover appeared delighted

by the attention.

Further ahead, a cloud lowered

itself to whisper a plot twist to

the hillside.

The hillside promised not to

spoil the ending.

By afternoon, the mountain was

a pebble again.

The dragon returned to puddle

duties.

The Forest of Great Importance

resumed being a fern.

Only the story continued.

It disappeared around a bend

in the trail.

Fablet followed.

The trail hurried after them.

And the moon smiled upside down.

The earth whispered, "Wheee."

And there are popsicles on

Thursdays.

The story wandered off

The trail followed
