Falling yellow leaves in a forest, blurred tree background, creating a serene autumn atmosphere.

The trail sometimes finds an

easier way, like learning to tie

its own shoes.

This morning, the other creatures

came to a fallen branch.

It was crooked as a squirrel's

handwriting.

They stopped.

The branch listened politely.

It had nowhere else to be.

While everyone was deciding,

Nimbli suddenly wondered what

sunflowers do at noon.

It slipped through a patch of

clover and wandered beneath

a fern.

A few stepping stones dealt out

cards, like a good poker game.

Nimbli quietly continued to the

other side.

One by one, the other creatures

followed around, like the tail of a

Chinese dragon.

Nimbli was already there,

watching a puddle

practicing being the sky.

"You didn't move the branch,"

they said.

Nimbli tilted their head.

"Neither did the trail."

Nobody knew what that meant.

The branch seemed to.

It looked wonderfully relieved.

After that, whenever the trail

bent, the other creatures

leaned with it.

Whenever it wandered,

they wondered what it had

noticed.

The breeze changed directions.

The leaves thought that was funny.

The moon smiled upside down.

The earth whispered, "Wheee."

And there are popsicles on

Thursdays.
